Frequently Asked Questions

The Wood Block Grand Prix is a fun, family-friendly racing event where kids and families build and customize wooden race cars using official kits provided by Rinehart Racing. It’s all about creativity, teamwork, and building lasting memories—then racing your creation to see how it stacks up!

Races are open to students from Kindergarten through 6th grade at participating schools. We also have a “Family & Other” division for parents, siblings, neighbors, and friends who want to join in the fun. However, only students from participating schools can qualify for the championship round.

Each kit includes a wood block, wheels, axles (screws), and all the parts you’ll need to build your car. Kits must be used as-is—no outside parts are allowed. You’re free to shape, paint, and decorate your car as long as it meets the official race specs.

To qualify, each car must:

  • Be no longer than 7¼ inches

  • Be no wider than 2¾ inches

  • Be no taller than 3 inches

  • Weigh no more than 6 oz (171 grams)

  • Have at least 3/8 inch clearance underneath

  • Have at least 1¾ inches between the wheels
Your car will go through a pre-race inspection to ensure it meets all the rules.

Absolutely—just keep it safe and fair. You can paint your car and add decorations, but nothing sticky, wet, or likely to interfere with other racers is allowed. Ribbons, strings, or parts that might fall off mid-race will need to be removed before racing.

Race day check-in and inspection runs from 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM. Races start at 9:00 AM, beginning with Kindergarten and progressing by grade level throughout the day. The final Championship Round begins at 3:00 PM.

Don't miss out on the fun!
